Church Organization

October 3, 1952 Cannel City, Kentucky

On October 3, 1952 at 7:00P.M. there was a meeting called at The Mission in Cannel City, Kentucky for the purpose of organizing a New Testament Church. There were three Missionary Baptist Churches represented.

  1. Richland Baptist Church, Livermore, Kentucky McLean County, which was the Mother Church of the one to be organized,
  2. Cleaton Baptist Church, Cleaton, Kentucky, Mulenburg County,
  3. Dublin Baptist Church, Dublin, Kentucky. Graves County

There were four preachers presented, namely: R.D.Mize, Carl Noel, Learnard Young, and James Deborde.

The organizing council was arranged with R.D. Mize Moderator and James DeBorde as Clerk.

Letters were presented for membership, from Richland Missionary Baptist Church, Livermore, Kentucky. All of which were in good standing.

There was a motion and second by the council to organize a Church with those who had presented letters. Motion carried.

Prayer was then lead by Bro. Leanard Young.

There was a motion and second by the council to declare this group of baptized belivers an Independent Church with Christ the only Head. Motion carried. The Declarations of Faith which are given in J.M. Pendleton's Church Manuel, page 43 was read by Bro. Carl Noel.

There was a motion and second by the Church to accept these declarations as theirs. Motion carried.

The Church Covanent was read by Bro. Leanard Young.

There was a motion and second from the Church to adopt this covanent. Motion carried.

There was a motion and second from the Church that it's name be Calvary Baptist Church. Motion carried.

There was a motion and second from the Church to call Bro. James DeBorde as their Pastor. Motion carried.

There was a motion and second from the Church to elect Raymond Haney as Clerk of the Church. Motion carried.

There was a motion and second from the Church to elect Elbert Phipps as treasure of the Church. Motion carried.

As the closing hymn was sung all clasped hands with each other and bid the new Church and its good Pastor God's speed.
